Michael,
Other postings here make some very good points regarding so called drop in replacements for R-12 (Freon) refrigerant. One I investigated used propane as the principal gas. Now I have no reservations about using propane to fire the back yard grill ... but I would not want it circulating through my A/C system ... especially if I had a leak in the interior lines or evaporator.
Despite manufacture's claims that propane based refrigerant does not create a fire or explosion danger ... I would be more comfortable with non-flammable R-12
or conversion to HC134a.
Call me old fashioned but I prefer the passenger compartment be filled with a cool breeze when I switch on the A/C ... not a ball of fire.
