Richard ---

Although this is an unusual example, a friend had a similar symptom on an '87 745.

He had a new fuel pump relay installed; the problem turned out to be a burned (female) connector in the relay socket. It melted the plastic socket badly and burned his new relay. The final solution was a good used fuse block & relay panel. It was a headache switching all the wires and connectors over to the new panel.

His car stalled intermittently for several days before finally quitting for good. The burned relay and socket were easy to see -- and smell!

Good luck.
