are 240 speedometers interchangeable?[240-260/80] posted by bn on

The odometer in 1980 240DL wagon doesn't work very well.
It has a maxmimum reading in mph as 85.

I got a speedometer from a 244 at the junkyard that has a maximum reading of 135. (don't know the year)

will the new junkyard speedometer give the correct speed on my car?

thanks

Speedometers DO interchange, but not all. You need to ck the " R " # on the face of the speedo. For instance, If your speedo has r 0,980 on it, the replacement speedo must as well. If you have cruise control, there's an impulse coil on the back. Check for that too. Spin a couple of miles on the replacement speedo at the boneyard to make sure the odo works ! I don't know why they used that 85mph speedo in '80, but if MY '80 242C had one I'd never know how fast I was going............A 242C is a 262C with the right engine in it. --
