The switches are notoriously BAD. But, they usually don't short to ground and pop fuses. You may have a combo problem.
As far as the wiring harness that goes south, it's typically the engine wire harness. It is possible that the power wire for the electric windows is worn through at the door jamb, hence the wire harness comment.
240 GT? 1984...you mean it's a Turbo, right? 244 or 245?

I have noticed that the drivers door master wiring that passes thru the accordion rubber tube in the door jamb frequently gets nicked and or chafes and the result is a short against the body and/or the other wires in the bundle.
Another source is the wiring inside the door going to the window motor-if the underhood wiring biodegrades then the doorand window switch wiring is also likely to do the same.
BTW Had my fuse blow when I used the power window switch when it was raining-I had all the usual stuff on-Lights, blower, A/C, and when I went to lower the window to pay a toll I hit both the front window switches at once and POP went Mr. Fuse! I lost the radio and power antenna along with the windows-replaced the fuse and never happened again-even thought I set the same stuff up and tried to repeat it several times. It was one of those IPD glass fuses too!
