Unbolt the drivers seat, same with the passenger seat, the trans console cover, the parking brake console cover, the door sills, the center console and side covers, the kickpanels and maybe the rear floor heater vent. If the underlayment looks bad, dump it and get new at a carpet store, also get a piece for below the rear seat as this can cut the noise level a bit.

The trans console cover just has to be unscrewed and pulled up to the top of the shifter and secured with duct tape, removal means taking the shifter knob odd and this is a PITA!

A;lso take a look at any wiring that passes under the carpet, check for chafing, etc as this will save lots of hassles in the future!
