sounds like he replaced your fuel pressure regulator.
The stock one is a 3.0 bar bosch regulator; and they generally work fine unless they don't, the symptom of not working tends to be an overrich condition where the ruptured diaphragm bleeds fuel through the vacuum line into the intake manifold.
More likely the erratic idling is due to dirty throttle body, incorrect setting of idle switch and idle speed, and/or worn automatic idle control valve...that's the motor thingy that one guy turned the electrical up to keep blowby moisture out...also known as AIC valve.
1. clean throttle body.
2. check/reset idle switch.
3. reset base idle.
4. if still idles erratically, check/clean AIC valve. May have to replace...about $125 new.
5. also check 02 sensor crossovers
However, before you go through all this, make sure the basics are in order, i.e., good plugs, good ignition wires, good distributor rotor and cap, good connection at the distributor primary (the little plastic housing on cam-end distributors hardens up and cracks in 8-10 yrs), etc. etc.
