Upgrading B-18 Felt Seals[850/1995] posted by Steve on

I would like to replace the felt seals on my B-18 with elastomeric seals.

The B-30 engine has improved front seals. Does the timing gear cover from a B-30 fit on a B-18 engine? It looks like it would be a perfect fit. Will the B-30 seal work on the journal of a B-18 crank? Is the timing mark in the right place?

The rear seal on the B-30 and the 1974-75 B-20 is also an improved version. Would the rear seal and housing from these fit on a B-18?

I know that IPD will modify front and rear housings for a price, about $80 the set versus less than $10 at the local Pull-Apart. Has anyone else tried the cheap route?

Certainly the late B-20 seals[and housings] will fit a B-18. I'm not sure about the B-30 parts.
