850 Final Drive Ratios[850/1995] posted by Matt on

I noticed in the Volvo brochure that the 850 Turbo models have a 2.54 final drive ratio whereas the Nonturbo 850s have a 2.74 final drive ratio. I have a 850R and was wondering if the 2.74 gearing would fit and if there were any other considerations such as abuse to drive train etc.... This would obviously increase the quickness of the car at the expense of higher highway cruising RPM's and Top speed(but who goes 150+ anyway). I am trying to locate some auto math/drag racing equations/programs to calculate the gains in 0-60, rpm levels VS MPH, and 1/4 mile times. Does anyone know where to find this???

Another possible advantage of making this change would be that you could then put a larger diameter tire on the somewhat harsh riding 17" rims, and still maintain a fairly similiar overall final drive ratio as it comes in stock form.

Any feedback or suggestions would be appreciated.

Matt T.
