I was poking around under the hood, and having heard about the bad things that go on when your flame trap is plugged, I pried mine out (B21A) and there it was - gone. The trap contained no screen, just a bit of that emulsifed sludge that you get from condensation. Is missing the screen a problem? No idea when it might have been removed, cause it doesn't show in my service records for the last ten years.

The '87 740 B230F that I bought didn't have a screen either. I don't know why
the thing is necessary (trap what flames???) but I installed the $2 part anyhow.
Don't know how critical it is, especially since it tends to clog. Maybe the
experts on this here board will shed some light on this one.
