suspention&carb modification[850/1995] posted by Tim Wilkin on

Iam looking for a affordable way to change my road springs to a more responsive set and also my shocks. My carb's are SU H6's and Iam looking for a affordable upgrade, please don't say weber I have heard they are very difficult to keep tuned. I have heard about 3 carb set-up's but I do not know what type to use or what to use for a manifold for that matter!
Thank You.
Tim.

Tim,
As for carburettion I would seriously consider a pair of sequential side drafts
or if bonnet space permits downdrafts. Simoultaneous choke twin barrel carbs
have limited flexibility at low revs and are more precarious in their progression
jetting.Solex made carbs found on certain Merc's may do the trick. Holley-W
4 bbl is another alternative but manifolding is the main problem.Bearing in mind you may have to do a fair amount of experimenting with jetting.
Suspension:suggest stabilizer bar for rear end and gas charged shocks (stab. bar
should be sufficiently soft to avoid oversteer) ; More generous caster angles in
front - higher of the recommended limits and lower profile tyres.
Good luck!
