rapid wear and warpage of front rotors[850/1995] posted by Gary Conyne on

I am the original owner of my 1992 940 and have niticed rather rapid wear of my front rotors. They usually have to be replaced in 40,000 miles or less. Is this a common thing? Iam very careful and do not abuse the car when I drive it. I do all brake related maintenance at one local garage and the mechanics do not seem to think that this is unusual. Is there any aftermarket rotor such as a cross-drilled one that would help to dissipate heat buildup on the rotors associated with wear and warpage? I live in the Houston,Texas area and it is extremely hot here about 7to 8 months out of the year. Any further help or information will be greatly appreciated. Gary Conyne

Suggest you try both rotors and pads from IPD (1-800-444-6473).
MAKE SURE the wheel lug nuts are tightened with a torque wrench (manually). Don't let them jibe you that using an air wrench is ok. This should stop the warpage problem. If they are using "lifetime" pads, these tend to be harder and will eat up rotors.
