Winter Tips[850/1995] posted by Ed Lipe on

Now that winter has taken a short siesta, let's get ready for the next blast.
I live in Oldsmobile Town, Michigan, so this might not apply to those folks in So. Cal.
. Extra weight for ice & snow- Tubesand by Quickcrete brands is available in 70# no-tear bags @ $3 ea. Don't buy the ones with just the plastic cover.
. Silicone spray on ALL door seals (felt & rubber) to keep them from freezing shut. Do this year-round to keep seals in good shape.
. Door-eze for the lock cylinders to keep them working.
. Butane lighter kept inside the house, not the car, to warm your key when your lock cylinder is frozen.
. Correct oil for the temp range you live in.
. Good tires, snow treads if you need 'em.
. Coolant check
. Flip wipers away from glass when parked overnite to facilitate ice/snow removal.
. Diesel Owners:
Install a block heater
Add 1 gal kerosene per fill-up (winter only)
Add 1 quart ATF to fuel each month to keep the pump and injectors clean year-round.
These, along with the normal maintenance and goodies in the trunk, help keep me moving when things is cold.
Anyone else got any tricks to pass along?
