B240F Intake valve cleaning[850/1995] posted by Roy on

Has anyone had or done the cleaning of intake valves on a B240F without removing the head? In a conversation with the Volvo mechanic, he said deposits build up on the intake valves and cause cold start & stalling problems. He told me in vague terms about blasting the valves clean while in the engine.
Can someone fill in the details? Is it worth it?

That is a thorough way to accomplish this but it is a relative pain even with the special equipment.
I would try a chemical treatment first. BG44K is an excellent one. It isn't available at retail outlets. You'll have to find a repair shop which carries BG products.

Roy, check out this internet site for BG products. I called the distributor
for my area, and was given the name of 4 businesses nearby that sell the stuff.
One was a block from my home, and the other was a nearby reputable Volvo repair
shop. Good luck.

I have used BG products set up for top-end engine cleaning in 1986 740
Turbo. Chief complaint was low idle and off-idle hesitation with
occaisional stalling . Set-up includes special tool with reservoir
and spray attachment hooked to shop air. 3 BG chemicals are used,
2 in the sprayer and one in the tank. Engine is run with chemicals
spraying. Takes about 15 minutes. Results were immediate. Idle before
treatment was 650 rpm now 850-900. Low speed throttle response is very
smooth.
These products only available to professional shops. Find one in your
area and try it out- I highly recommend this product.
