88 740 Headliner[850/1995] posted by Arrwin on

The headliner on my 88 740GLE is drooping in the rear. I don't want to replace the whole headliner. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can repair it?

This should not happen. It is the result of a poor selection of headliner material. However I have used the upholstry twist pins to hold mine up. They don't look too bad if you put them in in a regular pattern the same on each side and put them in as soon as the first drooping occurs. Spray adhesive will not do the job as you are only adhering to the foam which is failing anyway.

Last weekend I replaced the headliner in my 760 turbo wagon. It wasn't too difficult but it did take most of the day. It was definitely worth the effort because it looks great. If you're looking for something less complicated you can try a replacement headliner from J.C. Whitney. It costs about $50 and snaps in underneath the existing one. I haven't tried it but it looks pretty fast and easy in their catalogue. If you decide to do it yourself I have instructions I downloaded from here I can post. Let me know.
