5000 rpm all day and all night wouldn't hurt a Volvo engine that runs right. You could drive across the country in second gear at 65mph and do no more than guzzle gas. Oil consumption would be higher too, but the better the oil the less consumption. You're not hurting a thing. Short trips at low speed is a killer. Every once in a while, high engine speed cruises helps to rid the engine of carbon deposits, and the oil of contaminents. --
