Oil vapor condensing in the turbo hoses is very common
with older 240t's because of the blowby being taken in
via the flame trap. Axial play of the turbine shaft is
also part of the deal - there's always some.

This metal 'ting' might be your fan hitting the radiator,
or the fan shroud, so you might want to check that out.

Bottom line on the turbo is: the car has high mileage
and the turbo is due to give up the ghost if it's original.
