IF it's indeed a lifter tick, then you can try to
tame it by changing to a very light weight oil and
run it for 500 miles, change it back or, as I wound
up doing, adding about 1/2 quart of Marvel Mystery
Oil and running that with fresh 10w-30 (Kendall
GT-1). Cleared it up nicely - even on my MX3's
V6 (notorious for lifter noise).
