BIG Wheels for V40 T4?[S40/1997] posted by Steffan Lee on

Hi Guys
I have a 97 model V40 T4 with the stock 16"x7" rims running 50 profile bags. Is anyone aware what is the largest size wheel I can fit on this car without any suspension/guard mods? I'm looking at BBS RXs 17"x7" running 40 profile bags. I don't seem to be having much luck in finding much range from any manufacturers. This car maintains a 4 stud pattern - which only serves to make my problem more difficult!
Thanks...

BTTC cars are running 19" wheels. Suspension travel is just 2" but - hey, anything for the looks! Right? BTW. How's your Turbo? Is it fast? Faster than 850 TR5 (or what ever they call it)? We don't have S40T4 in the US and won't get, neither (?) - so, please, tell us! Thanks.

It seems like your brick has an ET40 offset. 17inch TSW Evo's or Hockenheim's should fit. 215/40-17. You should be able to use the same rims that will fit s/v 90's, 960's, 940's from 94-on. You can also fit rims from c/s/v70's , 850's from 94-present. I assume you're in the UK, Call Demon Tweaks, or pick up a copy of Max Speed, or whatever that performance magazine is called.
Good luck, send me a pic of it!

You should be able to fit 17x7 with 45's, or 18x7 with 40's.

Jeb, S40 has 4 lug wheels. Also, you won't be able to drive 5-cyl S40 unless Tom Walkinshaw hires you...Only BTCC and Aussie race S40s have a five cyl motors (an 850 engine, 2 liters). And neither one have a turbo!

You can fit 215/40R17 tyres on eg. O.Z. Sinfonia (17J8) wheels.
Also an option is 225/40R16, but then you really need 7.5J
The 205/50R16 is the biggest wheel (diameter) you can fit before
your speedo gets outside the legal difference. 'standard'
varies per country. Here in The Netherlands the 'base' S/V40 T4 comes with 205/55R15 on steel wheels (no alloy)
A 215/40R18 would have a tad too big diameter and are hard to come by.
There are quite a few 17" wheels available for the S/V40
nowadays. I have a marked preference for O.Z. because
I like the quality. BBS is OK, but TSW (here in europe) is
what I would qualify as 'shoddy workmanship' (bad paint-jobs,
rough edges, un-balanced)
Your experiences may vary..
Check out a local wheel/tyre shop and ask them what they can do
for a V40. The product-ranges vary quite a lot per country,
so it's hard to say what is or isn't available (eg. the 17"
O.Z. F1-Cup is _not_ available in Germany, but _is_ available
in The Netherlands)
Bye, Arno.
