Pete,

My cruise went once (on my old '85 244Ti); there was a crack in the tiny vacuum tube near the top back of the engine (near the firewall). It's been a while since I've putzed around with a Volvo cruise, but I remember that the tube was cracked at the upper fitting. If this is the case, cut the tubing back until there's no cracking (obviously) and then reinsert the fitting (sometimes this is kind of a pain, but it only takes a few minutes overall. Hope this helps...good luck!

Listen to Marty, 80 % of the time it's a vacuum leak. I don't commit the numbers to memory, but somewhere between 0 & 4V is the signal sent from the impulse generator at speed. (speedometer) The wires are blue and gray as I remember. Also check the 4 wire connector from the switch, for power from yellow wire w/ button depressed. Dont forget the obvious fuse at the fusebox and the not so obvious in line fuse in the brake pedal area. Check those switches too. --

On our 86 CC system, the throttle is controlled by a thin wire to the throttle control. It is not obvious when it breaks, but will certainly casue it to stop working. I think I've replace two of them. If your system is similar I'd check the footwell to se if that wire is still attached.
