Find a Volvo boneyard and look for an original Volvo hitch. I bought one (new) in '79, and it's now on its fourth 245. It fits and works perfectly.

If you decide to go this route, don't forget to get the long bolts that go through the frame (and the extra nuts) -- they also secure the bumper shocks. They're removed from inside the trunk, down inside recessed holes. Also, don't overlook the tongue, pin, and clip (if not rusted into the hitch, it might be in the storage compartment).

I'd bet you could find one for $5-50 and an hour's labor. --
