Re: Which Alpine CD Changers Will Work With an SC-811?[850/1995] posted by davespeed at bigfoot dot com on

Hey, I just found a useful url, for Peripheral Electronics,
maker of adapters for Volvo radios and Alpine CD changers
(interestingly, they mention the 601 and also a 604*):

http://www.stinger-aamp.com/peripheral/main.htm

The page contining info specific to this thread is:

http://www.stinger-aamp.com/peripheral/pcat1/pcat1_3.htm

* Be sure to use harness adapter KCA130B and switch changer to standard setting.

This afternoon, at Circuit City we tried piggy-backing
some generic (Mercedes/Jaguar/???) 'translator' (one
guy called it a "sequencer") in series with the basic
adapter/converter that'd worked with my OEM SC-811, as
well as with their Peripheral Electronics adapter/converter,
with no success. This was after I noticed that the one he
intended to try said it would not work with my new/used
SC-815 (we did not try it). That same notice said to
use a VOLALP96, which had not yet been completed at time
of printing (and is probably vaporware). CC said they could order
it for $100. Maybe middle of next week...

Anyway, a local place, The Sound Shop, had a VOL815D, for which
they charged $115. It claims to be an "Alpine CD interface for
1996/97 Volvo SC-815 radios". And so it is -- it works, though
a bit more sluggishly than the old adapter, which worked perfectly
(the new one apparently does some translating...)

So that means I have an Alpine 601 <==> SC-811 adapter (also says
it's OK with SC710, 810, 814, and CR915; and it allows cartridge
to be ejected even with key removed from ignition switch -- I've
heard that some do not) for sale. Perfect, as new condition.

$50 incl better-than-new installation instructions, 850 glovebox
mounting template, and U.S. shipping.
