760 Climate Control Fan[ALL/1988] posted by Brian Killins on

The heater fan for my 760 with ACC is not working. So far, I have checked the fan motor, which will operate with power directly to it. The resistors are corroded but I don't see any breaks there. One of the relays seems to work, as it clicks with moving the control.

Any suggestions as to tracking down the problem?

I, too, had this one happen to me on my 745. In my case, it was a bum ground behind the passenger side kick panel. The ballast resistor serves to give the different fan speeds. Power thru each leg of the resistor should be tested also.

A problem that can occur on 760 /740 of that vintage is a burned fuse holder for the fan. Try pushing doen hard the fan fuse and see if it blows. If it does the fix is toinstall a fuse holder that you can locate in the area of the current fuse box. You remove the wires from underneath the fuse box and solder in an aftermarket fuseholder with a 30 amp. fuse.

Uhh.. this isn't exactly about the fan, but[ALL/1988] posted by Owen Woodland on

Hi Brian!

Sorry, this isn't a response to your question, but I noticed that you have a 760, and I was thinking of buying a 1985 760, which looks to be in reasnoble condition... Two volvo mechanics have now warned me away from them, but my question to you is:

Do you have a lot of trouble with the engine in your car? I mean dropping heads, or just valves, pistons, fuel injection, corrosion, that sort of thing, because I want owner input as well as mechanic's input

Thanks for any help,

Owen in Australia
