S70 Rattles - Continued[ALL/1988] posted by Jerzy Rozenblit on

Folks, thanks for your feedback on this. I had the car at the dealer today. They are very nice and try to be helpful. They tightened the front suspension and it appears firmer. The rear squeaks: "could not duplicate" (my mistake as I was rushing off to work I did not have a chance to invite the tech for a ride :-)) Will do it next time.

Incidently, I had a base S70 loaner. It appears that the front thumping is a design problem (perhaps the steering column?). On a left, 150 degree turn (no full lock of the steering wheel, though), on a rough surface, there is a very pronounced thumping, clunking noise.

For those considering the base S70 vs GLT or T5; the base engine is much less powerful and not as well matched to the transssion as the light turbo, or high pressure turbo.

What do you mean by tightening the front suspension? What problems did you have and what exactly did the dealer do to it? I'm trying to do something to mine too and just wanted to know more details.

thanks.

Han,

Please see my post re: rattles on a sharp left turn on a rough surface. They said what I quote "tightened front suspension" (?). I suspect it's the new steering column design. I talked to them and will take the car in again next week.

Jerzy
