Performance exhaust for 740T[ALL/1988] posted by Rex on

Do any of you fellow "bricksters" know whom might offer a cat. back performance exhaust system/kit for a 90 model 740T. A buddy of mine and I have been looking for one in the usual places, but no luck. The current stuff offered as factory replacement is even smaller than what it came with.
Thanks in advance for all your help!

Group-6 on the Internet has some for sale...call them for specific diameters of pipes, etc.
Good Luck

You donīt really need bigger cat-back system. Of course, if your aiming
for MANY Hp, itīs a different question. If you want to impress people,
change the end pipe to something like 4" or 5"..
Rember that an "old" cat from 88 -90 will choke your poor engine much
much more than the cat-back Change the cat, get one from a Chevy Van
or something.
I am very soon running 300 Hp in my 97ī 940 w 230FT. I am doing this
with a very mild 2.5" cat back system.

Goran: How do you get 300HP out of a B230FT. I have a 89 740 turbo and have about 15LBS of boost I have no idea how much power this makes. I do have a bad traction problem!

Well, getting 300HP or more from a 230FT is not that complicated.
For more info see:
http://mcbrooms.com/volvo/fast700.htm
or
http://www.bsrab.se

These mods will apply for my 97ī 940 Turbo:
- Changed Air filter (JR Air Filter) with all air inlets open up.
- Turbo from Volvo 850R (Mitshubishi), sligthly modified.
- Volvo 531 cyl.head with Group A modified combustion chambers
- Volvo VX cam.
- 3" turbo downpipe.
- Rising fuel pressure regulator.
- 2.5" cat back system.
- New clutch (Sachs).
- M90 manual gearbox.
- Appropriate chip from BSR Sportsman.

With this mods one will get something like 300Hp.
You will also need to strap the intercooler, otherwise it will blow apart !
On a 89 740 one must also change to 940 exhaust manifold.
If you have a manual, you will most certainly have a M46P. You WILL
encounter problem with this gearbox if going above something like
220 Hp.
