B20E OVERHEATING?[ALL/1988] posted by jim sherman on

I swapped a B20E engine into my 68 P1800S which has Mechanical oil and temp guages. I "weberized" it with the carb that I had on the B18B engine. I notice that when I am cruising at about 70-75 mph the oil temp starts to climb to the 265-280 degree region(water temp stays the same at 190). Is there a problem with the circulation or is this normal. Oh yes, I paralleled the water heated choke and intake manifold into the heater circuit using "T" fittings, maybe this is too much bypass of the coolant, and I should put a restricter in manifold loop. Everything seems ok, no abnormal smells...yet; however I am concerned. I do like the increase in performance with the new engine.

thanks
Jim

Verify readout of temp guage with boiling water. Oil shouldn't be run much hotter than 240 deg F. Significant breakdown occurs.
