How do you fix rear electric window etechings[ALL/1988] posted by Mark Sovereign on

Hi all again,

When delivered in the UK the dealers have this habit of placing unremovable decals on the inside of the rear window.

I asked a maintenance collegue any ideas how to remove, forwarded hte suggesturen that i use a window scraper.

But you've guessed it what it did was scratch some of the lower heater etchings of the eletric window off from the bottom to the level at the top of the centre rear stop light.

So how do i go about fixing this ?

Thanks in advance and stupid for trying (if it works dont touch it!!!!!).

I asume you mean what we call the Electric Rear Window Defogger...If you go a auto glass or electronics shop and get a liquid copper material that you can paint on to renew the contact, but this is also available in a strip form. It's onlt good fro a short distance, several mm's at best, so dependeing on the size of the "incident" you may be better off taking it to a peofessional auto glass shop. Or try surfing your local salvage yard for a replacement.

I'm not kidding about only fixing small breaks in the conductor, I have read posts of folks having the window shatter the next time they used the defogger due to excessive heat build up because of the thickness and resistance of the repair! Result: BANG! S@%*T! and of corse it's on they way to work/school/etc. and you just dropped glass coverage from your insurance, and it's raining poodles and garfields...yadda, yadda, yadda...
