B230FT Auxiliary Shaft - Purpose?[ALL/1988] posted by Bill on

I was wondering what the Auxiliary Shaft was for in the B230FT engine, i.e., what does it turn inside the engine? My Haynes manual doesn't show this clearly. I am replacing the timing belt and the timing mark for the Aux. Shaft is off a bit. The manual says the Aux. shaft timing mark is not critcal but would it hurt to turn it to line it up (as long as I don't turn anything else)?

Thanks,
Bill

If distributor's on the head, shaft's driving only oil pump. Timing mark doesn't matter!

That's what I suspected. Thanks.
