Electric windows stopped working[ALL/1988] posted by Scott Blanton on

I have a 1982 Volvo 240 GL 4-door. Unexpectedly, my electric windows stopped working. I removed the driver master switch and everything was clean and tight. I have replaced the fuse with a known good fuse and still no response. There must be some other place I need to look, but I'm not sure where. Any ideas?

got a 84 244turbo... try this: carefully pop up the switch cluster with a screwdriver at one end of the switch cluster or remove the armrest (lots more timewise)and get at the wiring to the switches.
remove the connection from the bad door window and take the connector to try it on a known good switch. this will tell you if the switch is faulty or not....if the know good switch works...then the switch from the unworkable window is faulty...
the switches foul up w carbon in the inside.. you can take it apart carefully and clean them rather than buy new ones at $35. mind you i had the new ones go faulty again after a few months... electrical parts have a 3 month warranty so keep the bill just in case.

If everyone of your windows stopped working and you have tried another fuse, then you may have a faulty pwr. wdo. relay. There is a relay on the center console brace on the upper right. You can get to it by undoing the phillips screws on both left and right top corners of the console and pulling it rearward
a couple of inches.

Sorry, I wasn't finished when I sent the reply.
At the relay you will find : black---ground, blue/yellow---12 V when ign is on, brown---12V feed from fuse all the time, and red---12V output when key is on if relay is working, this wire goes to switches.
