Your problem may be with the spark-plug cables. If they are old, moisture might seep in, thereby preventing a spark from forming (and that is why you have to crank several times).

I had this problem happening especially if it was moist outside (i.e. when raining). Maybe this is the same problem you have when it is cold outside.

Then, once car is warm, cables dry up, sparks fly, no more problems.

One way to check (before buying new cables) is to buy a product (usually in a can, ~ $5) that dries these cables. If problem gone, then likely cables need replacement.

Good Luck.

You need to have the control pressure tested. This takes a special fuel guage which is connected between the fuel distributor & Control Pressure Regulator. With eng. warm control press. should be about 52 PSI. But cold cont. press. will vary with the temp. of CPR. The colder it is the lower the cont. press. & the richer the mixture.
You will probably need a new CPR if cont. press. is out of specifications. If you don't have a guage take it a reputable shop.
