Oil cooled pistons-240 turbo[ALL/1988] posted by Henrik on

I have read in the magazine"BILSPORT"(swedish car magazine) about a awsome 760 turbo modified to -95 960 look.It has a b230 engine with group A intake,exhaust,531 head with vx cam and oilcooled pistons. That is something that i have never heard about before. Is there anyone that knows how this works?
I can hardly think of a way to get oil up into the piston!!!
Anyway it sure looks effective because that engine has been mesured to 273HK at 5450rpm and 394NM at 2750rpm,enough to launch that car from 0-100KM/h in about 5,9 seconds!!.WOW i think that could be fun.
Is there anywhere that i can find complete datas, what parts etc on a engine that was actually built and not just a "mind project"?

There is oil squirters at the bottom of the cylinders that spray oil at the bottom of the pistons. All late model B230FT engines have this feature.

Do you know which year the oil cooled pistons was introduced an what model?
is there any significant benefits of the oil cooling.?
Is it possible to fit to oil squirters in a early engine?

In response to upgrading a older B230FT block with piston cooling,I dont think it can be done. They are located on the bottom of the oil gallery with banjo bolts.(this information is all by memory from the last engine tear down I did)I do remember that the last major over heated engine I did the pistons were saved, because of this feature there was no piston skirt scorching.Usualy on a engines over heated this bad the pistons are scorched and crushed which will cause piston slap noises if reused.I will try to find info on when this went into production,my guess is around 1992.
