I had a bad booster once and opted to replace it with a new one. The price was about $250, but it was worth it for the trouble saved.

Before you start messing with the booster, check out the vacuum pump. It fails about three times as often as the booster. A repair kit should be available from Boston Volvo (1-800-336-2355). -Glenn.

I'll second Glenn on this one. I used to have a 75 164E that would go through vacuum pump diaphrams about once a year. They were easy to get at a local parts house, though, and easy to replace. Used to cost me less than $20, but that's been a few years back. Sure do miss that car.
