Yeah..the diesel is for diesel nuts...Did you drive the diesel? Imagine merging into a fast highway....no thanks. (And the 760 turbo diesel is a relatively fast diesel car!!)
The 242 in question seems to be high $ as everyone stated.....for a 1980....with 148,000 miles. What has this mech. done to the car? Make a list and post it to the board. You could buy a different car for $1500 or less and easily put another $1500 (or much more) into it to make it really nice and safe. A 1980 may need all new brake parts, new bushings, shocks, bearings, rear bearing seals, and so on......the engine may need nothing but a cleaning and tune up parts....but maybe it suffered some abuse.
Everybody selling a car sez they won't go below some price...but that shouldn't stop you from offering.....lower and waiting....1980 is beyond most "common" pricing books, but I would offer...well I won't say, because I haven't seen the car!! Don't worry about the comparative safety between the 760 or the 240....if both are in top working order they should both be safe (and some will say the 242 is safer than the 764 turbo diesel).
