Well on the std Volvo amp the signal goes out from the preamp outs and then to the speakers via the factory harness, the signal does not return to the radio. You might be thinking/confusing the amp with the optional equalizer which as I recall but might be wrong (oh god, wrong...what a concept!)the signal goes out to the EQ and then back to the head unit and then to the amp-EQing an unamped signal is easier on the EQ unit and the result has less distortion than an amped signal.

Now a 740, hmmmmm... Well the Blaupunkt has that "Eurolook" and with the correct facplate kit can be a flush mount. It doesn't have all that "steal me, I'm an expensive got everything but spin dry cycle"look to it...

For looking purposes try the link below and then take a tripo to a good local car audio shop that reps at least 5 brands and they will have a wall full of units to look at...the removeable faceplate is a nice deterrent to theft..just don't leave it in the glove box-crackheads may be stoned and desperate but they ain't that stupid...

BTW the Kenwood "MASK" design (the faceplate flips over to present a blank face) has no theft deterrent value...they get ripped off faster than anything!
