What is the best type spark plug for 1986 740T with B230 engine.
Driving habits are those of older retired male who does not want to draw
attention or burn rubber. Any pros / cons to BOSCH made Platinum tip ones ?

Bosch plugs are excellent but don't get the platinum plugs. The copper plugs are just fine. The platinum plugs can give you running problems if everything isn't "just right".

I use the replacement Bosch platinums (I replace them about every 6 mos. since they only cost $1.89 ea. at Pep Boys) and am not having any running problems. What kind of running problems are you referring to?

Why every 6 mos? How much mileage between changes? for my 854T Volvo says every 30k miles is sufficient...After 20K miles, I've noticed no spark problems yet, and feel that the recommendation is fine. And, aren't platinums supposed to last even longer than the standards? just curious...

I've run Bosch platinums for over 70kmi in another engine... just switched to them in '91 740 w/ B230F - no noticeable difference from Bosch copper plugs.
