Sway Bars missing on 855?[ALL/1988] posted by Jim Nash on

Did I miss an earlier posting about 97 model 855 T's not having
factory sway bars fitted?
Mine does not have them either, before I call the dealership and request
they put them on under warranty, can someone please tell me if I was
supposed to have them in the first place - many thanks.

I have a 1997 GLT (low pressure turbo). My car was built in July 1996. It did not have the rear sway bar. The 1997 brochure and press release from Volvo N.A. mentionned the presence of the rear and front sway bar. With this information I went to the dealer to ask them where is my missing rear sway bar. After waiting 3 weeks, I got a phone call asking me for the car VIN such they can order the correct bar. A week later I had a rear sway bar intalled free of charge.
My understanding is that in 1997, the rear sway bar should be factory intalled on all the 850 and 855. For 1996 and before, they where installed on 850 only.
If you have the 1997 brochure, take a look in the back. You will see that the rear sway bar is standard equipment on all 850 and 855. If you look in 1996 brochure, it is only installed only on the 850 (it is installed factory on the 855 if you order the sport suspension).
The explanation I got is that many 1997 built in 1996 did not have the rear sway bar. Later on, they all had sway bars.
