'86 240 w/ B230F -> B230F*T*[ALL/1988] posted by Justin on

So from my understanding, I have the same basic engine from '86 as the previous year's had - except those had turbos...
Here's my question, would it be possible to add a turbo to my B230F? Has this been done? I have this desperate urge to either do this, or trade my current Volvo in for an '85 with a turbo.. Yes, I want the extra HP THAT bad..
If this isn't a possibility, are there any aftermarket turbos, superchargers, anything? I need more than the 114hp I'm getting right now.. -The JTR V-8 manual is beginning to look VERY appealing..
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks!

Adding a turbo to your engine is not really feasible unless you are an expert machinist and mechanic. Then you have to deal with the fuel computer not being capable of supplying the extra fuel and the ignition computer not knowing the proper advance for the turboed engine. THEN there's the issue of the pistons being changed to lower compression ratio. AND then you need to change exhaust valves to the sodium filled type so as to not burn valves frequently. Other than those things it's very simple.
If you are serious, look around and find a complete drivetrain with harnesses and computers from a 740/760/780 turbo and install it. It fits nicely and it will be rliable and you will not have spent as much money.
