Hi - Can someone outline how to replace the belt in the 850?

This is not as basic as a red motor. This can be a difficult, at best, job for someone who hasn't had someone show them some of the finer points. This is not something I would feel comfortable posting. It is suggested to have the proper special tool for compressing the hydraulic tensioner. Plus the fact some 850s cam gears don't have timing marks, this could end up in a really, REALLY bad day.

What Mark is really saying is the instructions for your cam belt change is as follows:
1. insert key into ign. switch
2. start engine
3. drive to nearest qualified repair center, i.e. dealer
4. tell service advisor you want belt changed
5. wait in lounge
6. pay repair bill
7. drive home confident that belt isn't going to jump teeth and crash valves into pistons

Hi Mark, I dont know if I've ever asked you this, and its a bit off the 'Belt' subject, but my owners manual (854T) says that for the 10k mi. services which I generally do myself, I should grease the 'Link Arm Stops'. Now, what links are being referred to, and where are their 'stops'. Are they the Stabilizer Bar links? ...but I dont recall seeing 'stops' there. If you know what they are referring to , please advise. thanks.

The stops are on the front edge of each front control arm. On the '93s it's a metal clip about 35mm wide. On the '94 and newer cars, it's a white (when new) nylon pad rivetted to the front edge of the control arm. Just put a nice thick coat of general purpose (wheel bearing type) grease and that'll do ya.

Thanks, Mark...Went home and pulled out my trusty service manuals, and just as you say, there it is! And, since mine is a '95, it is After they changed from Alloy to Steel control arms, and should therefore have the white nylon "link arm stop". Now, judging from the appearance in the manuals, I cant find what its purpose would be....First, being nylon instead of metal like the earlier one, does that imply that lubing it would be no longer necessary? And second, I cant figure out what its supposed to be stopping! If the motion of the control arms is vertical, then why is there a 'stop' on the forward edge, implying horizontal motion? What am I missing here? thanks much!
