850 turbo mods[ALL/1988] posted by Michael Svard on

I have a '95 850 turbo sedan that I am intrested in modifying. Does anyone have any experiance with ECU "chip" upgrades? and from which supplier? I know of SAM , ipd, and Group 6. Has anyone made any suspension mods if so what and what were the results. I'm considering sway bars, lowering springs, struts(if the $ is reasonable) and also putting larger wheels w/ high performance tires on for performance and looks.

Thanks, Michael

Did you try IPD's home page? Here it is. Lot's of stuff you could do to your car. Overall, IPD is the most preferred among the turbo owners. Customer service is also unbeatable.

Sway Bars, turbo exhaust, ECU upgrade, strut brace, Bilstein shocks/struts, springs, hi-flow turbo downpipe, K&N filters, powder coated Brembo calipers, cross drilled rotors, stainless braided brakelines, skid plates,... did i miss anything? If you got the money... MODIFY.

Lots of messages on the board about ECU upgrade and all item above have been discussed in this board. try searching and you'll find more info.

good luck.

I have 94 855T that I put IPD ECU and Exhaust system on at 15k Miles and now have 58k miles on. GREAT performance and no other problems. Also went with K&N filter, IPD sport springs (stiffer than T series springs and ~ 1 inch lower), Bilstein struts & shocks, IPD front tower strut brace, & 17" 7 spoke late model stock Volvo wheels on Toyo Proxes 215x45x17 T1's. I went thru a set of 17" BBS wheels with Pirelli 205x45x17 P-Zeros before I gave up on them. The BBS wheels bent like butter with any big bump; no comparison to the Volvo 17" wheels. No problem with the original Volvo 16" wheels - now using them for my snow tires- 205x55x16 Pirelli 210P's.

Sorta depends on your definition of reasonable $, how fast do you want to go, speed costs $. I did not do the sway bars because of the springs & shocks - I don't need them with my set up. For less money the Sway bars get you to the same place - sort of. IPD has one of the most expensive ECU replacement set ups and the rest of their performance parts are not cheap. They stand behind what they sell and from what I hear about a couple of the others - you get what you pay for. I've got no complaints !! I only Have to worry about Z-28's and such and if they aren't paying attention at the light they are toast. Most mustangs aren't a problem at all but its going around corners that is really fun !!

I whole heartedly concur with what the others have said here.....I've had my IPD ECU and Sport exhaust for about 1.5 years now, and the Sport tuned IPD Sway Bars for about 6 mos. Each one of these upgrades improved the initial package, which was terrific to begin with. They all work together as if they were stock, and have provided me with the type of performance which will make it hard to depart with my beloved for the forseeable future... Usually, I wind up getting tired of a car and notice its faults after a few years. But with this one, due in large part to these modifications, I feel that to replace it with something which would give me any kind of substantial improvement in the performance, hence the enjoyment numbers, I'd have to spend over 10K more. So, in my way of rationalizing, the $1700 or so I spent on ECU, Exhaust, and Sway Bars was actually a savings for me, so long as they keep me from spending the 10k more to improve on what I have!
