I hope that you have at least laid eyes on this car you're so enamoured of. If so, go look at it again. Take a pad and pen with you.
Ask for the service records, here you'll look at the problems and money spent to correct those problems as well as regular maintenance. take notes.
Write down the milage and check the tread and condition of the tires.
Ask which engine it has, or, pop the hood and you'll find a sticker up front, between the grill and the radiator that has EPA info on it indicating engine.
Is this a dealer or individual?
Call your financial institution for current loan, trade, and retail values.
Look down the sides of the car looking for wrinkles or abnormal waves.
Report back to us. ED7

Here's some general information:

I believe 1983 was the 760's first year in the US, and if memory serves it was available with either the B28F PRV V-6 or a Volkswagen-built 6-cylinder turbodiesel (D24T). It's got most of the same standard luxury trappings as the current (and outgoing) S90 model, minus anti-lock brakes, air bag(s), and the Multilink-independent rear suspension.

Appearance-wise, if you're able to find a photo of any 1983-1987 700 series sedan, that'll give you a pretty good idea of what the car looks like (there were of course some differences in wheels, trim, and grille design between various models).

There are plenty of posts covering the PRV V-6 and turbodiesel engines for this model, so you may want to check those out just to be aware of any mechanical issues with these engines (especially the PRV V-6).

Good luck!

Regards,

Eric

Most of the younger 6 banger engines Volvo made or contracted out to have made on their behalf has problems more than the newer volvo 6 bangers. With my 760 GLE 84', the guys are still working with it. I had them remove the 6 cylinder
the other owner blew the engine with a B-21 4 cylinder engine in her. After that becomes history the small block v-8 will take it's place. Check for rust spots.
The power locks tend to not work over time. Also check the trim of the inside doors all four sides for heat damaged conditions. Check A/C system. Check to see radio is still working and the power antenna is working as well. And the list gos on and on!

Welcome to our little /big group!
