Does anyone know of a way to reset this light without having to go to the dealer?
Thanks.

The service light comes on at 10k intervals and can be reset by the dealership ) or with a ~$250 tool from IPD. The check engine light must be reset by the dealership. Either light should be reset for free by a good dealership. It only takes a couple of minutes. The access socket is located beneath your arm rest and is labeled OBDII (on board diagnostics, version 2).

Whether the dealer "should" reset it for free has a lot to do with your attitude. They can reset it without too much trouble if they are so inclined. Some dealers charge for this service. Some don't. Why should they do this when you obviously aren't going to them to spend money. My point is this... most dealers will reset the SERVICE light at no charge (if your not a flaming a##) but it is solely their perogative.
The "check engine" light is an entirely different story. If the light is on, the reason should be rectified, NOT just extinguish the light. Expensive damage can be done if certain situations are not corrected. Price a catalytic convertor and see if you want to take that chance.

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that a dealership was not "good" if they charged for resetting the "service" light, but I guess that's the way it sounded. I can see it becoming rather annoying for everyone to come in every 10K for a free light reset. This was my first 10K miles and I suppose the dealership (not the dealership I purchased the car from) felt it would be a good incentive for future business. They were right. Why did Volvo decide leave out a manual reset switch for service intervals anyway?
Although my dealership recently did this with my V70, I wasn't suggesting that resetting the "check engine" light and not correcting the problem was a solution. The error code generated was related to the vapor canister and had been detected 1time over a period of one week. Should I assume that they were correct in resetting my light and sending me on my way?
Thanks

The evaporative system fault codes can be a little vague. There have been a few problems in the way of vacuum leaks in the system. Any of these could set a code.
Don't be too alarmed or surprised if the light comes back on fairly soon.

I hate these lights! Anyway, it came on at about 7,500 miles. Is that unusual? The concensus seems to be 10,000. At least it doesn't STAY on like the check engine light. The service light goes out after about 4 mins.
Thanks anyway guys!
