Thanks Stan, Stoney, Todd and Paul for the tips.

I'll be embarrassed as hell if the DX (distant station) button has been pushed accidentally! Come to think of it, there are quite a number of buttons on the radio-cassette console (just one or two fewer than on a 747's control panel!!).

I'll certainly check that out - along with the other items on the list that you guys have so generously provided - when my wife gives me five clear minutes with the car.
