89 745T Odd temp reading - What could it be?[ALL/1988] posted by john on

106,000 miles (owned it for 3000 mi) Drove it to Phoenix from L.A. Ran great. Did 80+ for 2 hrs. The temp gauge flicks around alot and reads cold except when slowing or at idle. Maybe a ground problem? Just underwent 100,000 service so I would guess a 'thermostat absence' issue could be ruled out?

Since it goes to cold, it would almost have to be a bad sending unit. This located under the #2 intake runner. It'll either be a single (probably yellow wire) or a "D" shaped two wire connector screwed into the cyl head just above the head gasket surface.
