I am changing the tailpipe for 90 740GL. I was able to remove the clamp but the pipe is stacked as expected. Before I go to hammer and power approach, do you have any suggestions.

My advise is to use my oldest and dearest tool Mr. Blue Tipped Wrench! A propane torch will do fine for this and you don't ned to get a EPA or OSHA liscence for it! Just be sure to keep a water hose handy to cool off any other metal in the area, like the gas tank!
Oh, yeah, be sure to wear gloves and eye protection and keep a pair of BIG PLYERS handy so you won't be tempted to use Mr.Bare Hand!

The gas tank is plastic !! (At least it was on my 740T -90).
Please don´t torch the gas tank.....

Give it a thorough soaking with a light penetrating oil (WD-40, etc.) and bend it back and forth. Most of the time you can get it loose enough to be able to remove it by tapping on it with a hammer.

Thank you Mark. It worked before I explode the gas tank.
acceleration sucks[ALL/1988] posted by Jerry >>> on

I currently own a 1986 240DL. It's in good condition, except for the acceleration. It isn't constant. Usually, the car moves with a slow start even with the pedal to the floor. I've heard a dirty fuel filter can do this, but I just want some info on it.
