Is it just me or does anybody else accidentily turn on the hazards when they reach for the ashtray for change at a toll-booth or something?

Yes, it sometimes happens when I shift the auto trans into park. I too prefer manual shift but because of traffic my last 2 vehicles have been automatics. Wasn't as bad of a transition as I though it might be except for the time I hit the brake with my left foot thinking I still had a clutch. This is not the guy you want to tailgate. Pat, thanks for the info on the yakima. Good stuff.

Yes! I have done this also when driving my parents automatics. Scared the hell out of them and whoever was following me.

Hi all,

Now in my early carnations of volvo it was located in the centre bewteen the two cool air ventys on the European 300 series and on the 400 servies down by where ouur knee is out of arms way. I personally find the location of the switch on 850's a pain as for a quick responce you have to get behind the wheel and i forget its there !!! so lokking around for it. Here in Europe and especially in the UK we use it a lot to advise the our stop lights mean THAT the TRAFFIC as actaully stopped.

But i can undetstand the flustration .

Sometimes going into 3rd gear I hit it. My wife hits it every time going into 3rd. The word you're looking for is quirky.

I drove a loaner S70 and hit it accidentally, while groping for the radio controls without looking; all I did was 'brush' against it and it activated!

BTW: I find the new ignition switch position(on the column) to be difficult compared to the traditional on-dash position. What's up!?! General Motors is now putting the ignition switch on the dash in some models for "convenience" and Volvo is putting them on the steering column! The new S70 on-column position is difficult to see and maneuver into, even compared to my old OLDS station wagon.
I like the on-dash position of my present 240; is Volvo trying to "Americanize" their S70(in the worst sense of the term)?

What's next? ...a separate key for the doors and the ignition???? How about cheap chrome on the shift knob and headlight switch?
