RE: the B23FT being the best basis for a hotrod motor:

True, they ARE the most stout Volvo motors, but they're also a
bit rare, and usually you end up with a car coming along
with the engine. B21s are very stout and can be bored out.
The B230R block is even more rare than anything, but it can
take a HUGE boring out, to something like 2.8 liters. The
K engines and the early B230s are going to need to be
carefully watched if you build them past 250HP. My
89 744Ti is pushing 14psi, roughly 200HP, with NO
problems at all.
