Transmission Mount[140-160/73] posted by Craig White on

I've changed the motor mounts on this 142 and was surprised at just how easy the job was.
I'd like to put in a transmission mount. I crawled under the car and must say, it doesn't look as simple. Not much room there.
Should the tranny mount be installed before the motor mounts - while the engine is elevated - to allow for a little room?
Is there a trick to this?
Thanks.

It's only tough on the orange ones. All the rest were easy.
Didn't you read the manual, hmmmmmmmm???
Put the car on stands, jack the tranny slightly, loosen the big nut on the bottom of the transmission mount.
Drop the crossmember (watch the dirt in the eyes).
Remove the old transmission mount -- on yours, you may have to remove a small bracket with the mount on it, then remove the mount from the bracket, install the new mount on the bracket, and reinstall the bracket. I don't (care to) remember back that far.
Reinstall the cross member, remembering to align the mount stud into the hole. You'll probably need to "persuade" the cross member forward a bit, because the new mount needs to be compressed. I use a small prybar (or big screwdriver) in one cross member hole while I secure the adjacent bolt.
Tighten all four cross member bolts, remove the jack from under the tranny, and install the big nut on the stud.
Done.
