Diagnosing Driveshaft support bearing[200/89] posted by David M. on

Well....... I started at the engine and am working my way back.

Have a new clutch+associated parts, and M47 II (needed work).

However, I still had a funny whirring noise. I thought I was going
nuts, it wasn't really loud, but it seemed to get LOUDER at highway
speed.

Sure enuff, it was the driveshaft support bearing starting to get
crunchy.

So, I wasn't going crazy (at least not based on this data), obviously
that bearing is locked to rear wheel speed. Maybe I'm getting a little
slow on the draw. I've diagnosed wheel bearings before (correctly), this
one threw me off. Or maybe I was just xtra paranoid, having just replaced
a trani.

Hopefully this is the end of my bearing "fun" for a while.

Later,

DM.
