Suspension Click??[200/1978] posted by Bob Bicknell-Tassius on

During braking or when going over a sharp bump I hear a click in my from left suspension. I also feel the click with my left foot. Does anyone have any ideas where it could be comming from. I should say that during the past 6 months I have replaced all the front end bushings, and struts. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm Mr. Clunk, so please desribe the "click" a little better.
Just a click on braking could mean the disc pad pin retainer springs are loose/broken. Check those. They hook under the pins, and often someone will try to remove them without pushing the pins out. They break and cause rattling and clicking when braking...
Also a noise the may be a "click" when braking and going over bumps is the front control arm rear bushing being "loose" in the retaining bracket. You mentioned that your front bushings are new, but if this large bushing is not super tight in the bracket it will be forced flush when braking and make a click or clack and also may click over bumps. The best way to check:...Go pretty fast in reverse. Slam the brakes on. Don't go forward, Stop the car solid. Get out of the car and look at where the flange on the bushing meets the bracket. Is there a gap? If so not good. Go foward, hit the brakes hard does this gap close? Does it click?
Also new struts....is the 15/16" top nut (access from engine bay) properly seated on a washer clamping the strut tightly to the inner race of the strut bearing? Some brands of shock will tighten against the shaft without a washer...and click or clack will appear...
Is the center strut retaining hoop "nut" really really tight? (need a special tool or a huge pair of channel locks)...and when tight does it retain the shock body or bottom against the top rim of the tube?
You could have many worn parts...ball joints, steering end links...etc..
How many miles on the car?
