Rick, My father had to remove the stock chip, solder on a pin and snap in his SAM high performance chip in his '94 850 Turbo. It can be done. If you have no experience take it to a tv/vcr type repair shop they would be experience in soldering. For the extra $ spent on an IPD unit you get a unit that the performance value have been "flashed" into the chip in the ECU versus soldered in a new high performance chip.
I have also been looking for and comparing the various ECU/Chip mods for my car. I'm looking for more than just ease of install. I'm trying to find out how and with what peramaters each of the various tuners modify my cars chip/ECU.
The tuners that I know of off had are:
IPD/TME
BSR
SAM
SuperChip
PowerChip
Martin MotorSports
chip-tuning.com (wetterhauser) sp?
Cyntex
ChipTorque
H&S ( I know very little)
SCT Scandinavian Car Tuning (also know very little)
Group-6
Hevico (sp?)
Hope that helps,
Michael Svard
