First, you probably want Volvo's extended warrenty so make sure the dealer
is selling that one and not another third party warrenty.
You can also buy the warrenty any time. Our 95 850 is comming off
of warrenty and Volvo North America sent along all the forms and
what not allowing us to buy it now. I figure, wait til the factory
warrenty expires in case you sell the car (so, buy it when you
need it, not before). Yes, I plan to buy the warrenty once the
factory warrenty expires (there is a full coverage and a less
expensive powertrain type of coverage). You can also select time of
coverage, etc.
There have been some postings that the cost of the Volvo warrenty is negotiable.
Probably harder to negotiate the price down 4 years after the purchase of
the car (which is the only downside I see to getting the
warrenty at a later date).
